Meet the New African Regional President - Dr Omar Juma from Tanzania

 

The Trustees, Council and General Committee are very pleased to announce that Dr Omar Juma, MD, MPH from Tanzania has been appointed as the African Regional President.

 

Dr Omar Juma graduate from Kazan state University Russia, Internship program at Muhimbili National Hospital, Tanzania and Master of Public Health from University of New South Wales Sydney,Australia.

 

Joined Ifakara Health Institute,Bagamoyo Branch in 2005 as a Research and community engagement Coordinator. Involved in many studies like Malaria Vaccine RTS,S,Malaria drugs,TB,WASH etc. Supervising Students from University like, Oxford Muhimbili,IMTU,Uppsalla etc. Did vaccinology courses in France, South Korea and South Africa.

 

His responsibilities including field coordination and field preparation for study specific procedures. I do the work of reviewing protocol and translating to a local language, study specific recruitment, follow up and management of the participants. My particular interest is primary Health care and ethics.

 

Dr Juma is the author and co-author of more than five publications.

He was also involved in some media activities like kill or cure,BBC coverage of Malaria vaccine RTS,S etc.

 

On behalf of the members, Council, Trustees and General Committee of the IAHCP, I would like to congratulate Dr Omar Juma on his appointment, and we look forward to working with him in promoting excellence in patient care, education, medical practice, research, innovation in the African Communities.
